Years 9 and 10 - Pathways, Choice and Preparation for senior pathways
At Burdekin Catholic High School, Years 9 and 10 mark an important phase in a student’s learning journey. This is a time when students begin to make informed choices about their learning, deepen their understanding across key curriculum areas, and start preparing for future pathways in senior schooling and beyond.
A Focus on Pathways and Programs
The Years 9 and 10 curriculum is designed to support students as they transition from foundational learning into pathway-focused education. Alongside the Australian Curriculum, students are offered opportunities to explore areas of interest and strength through elective subjects that help shape their future directions.
During this phase, students begin to:
-
Develop greater independence and responsibility for their learning
-
Explore career interests and post-school pathways
-
Build the academic, vocational and personal skills required for senior schooling
Early Access to Senior Pathways
In Year 10, eligible students may commence aspects of senior secondary pathways while continuing to study the Australian Curriculum. These opportunities may include:
-
Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificates
-
School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)
-
Early commencement of senior subjects contributing to the QCE or QCIA
This flexible approach allows students to engage in learning that is meaningful, challenging and aligned to their individual goals.
Preparing Students for Senior Success
Our Years 9 and 10 curriculum provides a strong foundation for success in the senior years, whether students are pursuing academic, vocational or blended pathways. Through personalised learning, high expectations and strong pastoral care, Burdekin Catholic High School supports each student to discover their potential and confidently plan for the future.
